In this post we would like to introduce you to a relatively new- to- Alberta product – interlocking metal shingles.
There are handful of companies in North America who produce similar products. They all provide same functionality, a little bit different color and shape options as well as some variety in steel and coating. After trying few different manufacturers, we made a decision to stick with USA born EDCO. Here is their web site
In this post we would like to show you how this product is installed. This will give you a better idea of the system and whether it is suitable or not for your particular roof. Let’s begin:
First of all, this system requires full decking. What it means? It means that shingles will be installed over board, plywood or OSB. The deck of the roof must be clean, with no damage, no holes or any other openings. This is a substantial difference between metal shingles and metal tiles. Another mandatory point to mention is that this product requires an underlayment. And underlayment must be installed with nails instead of staples unlike work practices with other roofing products.
Following are couple pictures with comments, Just to give you an idea of how we install this product.
As you can see, this is a great product. It is suitable for any roof configuration. With huge variety of colors, shades and 5 different shapes of shingles, you will definitely find the best one for yourself.
