Black Standing Seam – HIBCO Project

Hello There!! It’s been a while since we posted something fresh. Sorry =( We have been a little bit busy lately. I would like to introduce you to our recent collaboration with HIBCO Construction. This project featured almost every single option for a mechanical standing seam roof. Such options as integrated snow rails, double stage seaming, strapping, skylights, pitch change and many more. Let me break some of the features below:

Double stage seaming is a process of seaming metal roof in two stages.

This process requires twice more labor. But provides for finer roof lines and solid roof structure.

We installed standing seam metal roof over double strapping. Double strapping provides additional ventilation, insulation, eliminates any condensation, provides additional sound proof. As well as it improves overall health of the house. In our case it looked like this

Another outstanding feature of this roof is an array of skylights. Often skylight means a leaky area. In order to avoid any potential problems, we used no silicone or screws, but we folded and seamed all the parts of the skylight flashing.

Another interesting feature of this roof was a change in pitch. We made it without a single cut. Only folds and seams. Using this time and labor consuming technique, we provided our client with cleanest and safest possible way for their roof. No cuts means no leaks or metal deterioration. Please see for yourself.

Terra-Cotta metal tile roof with half-round gables

Hello, Everyone. We just completed unique metal tile roof project.

This could be a simple little one except for one detail – it has half-round gable ends. There are few houses like this in Edmonton. Especially in older areas. No one could propose decent solution. But we found elegant one.

This is how it was half way through. Please note the framing we did. Strapping is required for additional ventilation, it levels any uneven spots on a roof deck as well as provides solid base for metal tiles

We replaced outdated exhaust pipes with modern Goosenecks. Installed snow stops all across the metal roof for protection at no additional cost. And now this house is living a second life. It will never see ice damps or mold. Proper ridge ventilation will serve to keep attic dry and cool in summer. Head turning appeal of metal tile roof will bring the cost of the property up. And every time customers will approach their house it ill welcome them with warm and pleasant view as well as 50 years warranty.

Blacked Out

Hello, everyone.

We just recently finished very interesting project in St Albert. We installed corrugated cladding and standing seam roof. We really proud of the project despite multiple interesting challenges. On this project we introduced hidden soffit system to our clients. This allowed us to keep sleek and clean line without sacrificing on proper ventilation of the roof.

As usual, we did standing seam roof over double strapping. This feature greatly benefits customers with additional ventilation, lower noise level, decreased energy bill, healthier building environment and many more.

Changing wood shakes onto Lifetime Seamless Metal Shakes

Hello again. Let me present you with another project we have done with Metal Seamless Shakes.

This house on the North of Edmonton welcomed us with stunning design and wood shakes in the very end of their life. Some were missing. Others were falling off. But shakes were nice and thick. Lets take a look how it was upon our arrival.(sorry for the fingers =) )

The stucco on the house looked very nice with shakes. That was one of the reasons we introduced our Metal Seamless Shakes to customers. They immediately fell in love with this option.

After removing four trailer- loads of old shakes and some tricks and magic, we introduced a new roof to our happy clients. With brand new pipeboots, goosenecks and ridge vent all across the roof, we can be sure that this roof will perform at it’s very best from now and forever. As a very important part of our installation, we included snow guards all around the house at no additional cost. This is an essential element for any metal roof, since metal is sleeker than other traditional materials. Snow guards provide protection from avalanches during winter months.

Standing Seam new build

In this post I want to show you one crazy project we completed this summer. It includes a house and a garage. Roof was done with 24 ga Dark Zink color scratch resistant steel in 1″ standing seam profile. This projects sits in a beautiful neighborhood next to the valley and Glenora area. Modern and sleek design from Ministry Of Design

Interesting roof design with multiple tough spots for installers. As usual, we folded panels on all valleys and edges. To make it 100% bulletproof and eliminate screws on a roof. Keeping in mind that this roof is made of valleys, we spent lots of time on it. But happy with the result.

As you can see, we installed snow rails on this standing seam roof everywhere to protect surroundings during winter. Additional snow rails were installed over sensitive areas. Such as chimney, dead valley on a back of the house and flat roof canopy to the left of the main entrance.

But most interesting part of the project was hidden between main area house and addition. Wall and roof meet together creating deep valley. We faced the challenge of creating something that can hold LOTS of water and snow for long periods of time without leaking. However, keeping it in line with current roof design and standing seam profile. So we ended up with complicated structure of elements, installed over BlueSkin underlayment. All parts of the system were custom measured and made. Every part was installed using fold and hidden fasteners. Please see below for pictures during installation and result.

Cottage in Jasper

Hello, There. It’s been a while since we post our updates. So here is one of the last we did – cottage just across from Jasper Provincial Park. Next to Gregg Lake, surrounded by forest and mountains, this location is awesome by itself. Since we put our Red Spanish Tile roof on it, it is standing out and protects the cottage for generations. We also built up fascias and covered them in same color matching steel for superior protection against the weather. No more words – enjoy the pictures

Superseamless metal shingles

We have recently successfully finished another project. Interesting and charming house. Surrounded by trees in nice neighborhood. This roof had pretty complicated structure. That is why we proposed our customers with interlocking metal shakes. Customers picked Burnished Slate color and it fitted their property just perfect.

Let’s take a look what was happening on a roof.

We installed all necessary flashings, did ridge vent, did some custom flashings around chimneys and stucco areas. Every area around the house now covered with snow guards. We spent quite a bit of time with tower on a back. But result was worth it.

Ice Dam Issue

Hello, everyone!

Recently i was driving through the city and found great example of poor ventilation. And what can happened to this roof during winter months in Alberta. Looks pretty scary, doesn’t it? Especially keeping in mind it is a restaurant with constant human traffic. Just think if one of these ice-creams will land on someone’s head.. Brrrr.. Without any inspection i can tell that there is a huge problem with ventilation. In other words – it does not exist. Here is diagram why Ice Dams like this are happening all over the city. In ideal situation, your soffit should suck in air and circulate it through the attic. But in real life it is not happening due to multiple factors. Let’s name just a few: – Soffits are blocked with insulation – Not enough or not efficient exhaust air vents on top of the roof – Mistakes during engineering/architectural stage – and many, many more. Now, what (on top of safety) this issue brings into the table: – Destroyed roofing area on the edge – Possible leaks and micro-leaks on the edges – Destroyed roofing decking on the edge(around 20%!!!!! of the houses have this issue) – Ice can tear off eavethroughs – another thousands $$$ in repairs. So what can you do to avoid this problem? The best solution is having roofing installed over strapping This will give enough air circulation and also work as additional insulation for your house (somewhere around R5 value). Also it is a good practice to install snow stops (snow rails, snow blocks, etc) ABOVE freezing line. It means at the line where the wall meets the soffit. Roughly 2 – 3 feet from the edge of the roof deck. Bottom line – if you see curled and damaged shingles on the edge of your roof – most likely you have this issue. And your house is getting destroyed every time it sees snow. Give us a call – we know how to fix it forever.
